What is abstract? Personally I think that abstract means when you take a photo and you have focused on one certain thing, for example (lines, light....). Also I think that it it when you take a photo and you can't tell what the photo actually is. For example the thing that you are taking a photo of is very bold and out going so you are able to work out what it represents or what it is.
My personal project
Formal element: Focus:which areas appear clearest or sharpest in the photograph? Light:which areas of the photograph are brightest?are there any shadows? does the photograph allow you to guess the time of the day?is the light natural or artificial? harsh or soft? reflected or direct. Line:Are there objects in the photograph that act as lines?are they straight, curvey, thin or thick?do the lines create direction in the photograph?do they outline?do the lines show movement or energy? Repetition:are there any objects, shapes or lines which repeat and create pattern. Shape: do you see geometric(straight edge) or organic(curvy) shapes? which are they? Space:is there depth to the photograph or does is seem shallow?what creates this appearance?are there important negative (empty) spaces in addition to positive (solid) spaces? is there depth created by spatial illusions i.e perspective. Texture:if you could touch the surface of the photography how would it feel?how do the objects in the picture look like they would feel? value/tone:is there a range of tones form dark to light?where is the darkest value?where is the lightest?
WWW: I think that these set of photos came out better than I thought they were going to come out. they are all very similar which I like and they are all linked in some sort of way. for example a section of my photos came out slightly blurred, which made some parts of the photo stand out more than others. where as some of the other photos are very clear and bold.
Man Ray photograms
Man ray focused on abstract photograms , all of his photograms where based on abstract objects. he spent most of his years in Paris focusing on photograms, he names his photograms Rayo grams and in his photograms he used everyday objects.
Photograms
Personally I think that this is the most abstract photo out of all of the above. The reason I think this is because it is very unique, I have never seen a photogram like this before and also when looking at the photo it will make you think about how this photogram was made and how it turned out so well. Another reason why I like this one is because its not something that would be thought about easily, so whoever made the photogram had to think about this certain style to do for a while. The other photograms that I choose where very basic, they're things that are easy to do and plan out.
How to make abstract photograms First pick out the abstract objects you would like to work with and place on your paper. Then arrange them in a abstract way, so that you can tell what object is which. After that turn the light on so that the picture is exposed to light for ruffly 5 seconds. And then after putting it in the right substances it should be ready.
HomeWork! William klein William is an abstract photographer who likes to take photos in his spare time. He has been taking abstract photos for many years now and will continue to take photos. He now takes photos of abstract clothing professionally.
In todays lesson we looked how to use photo shop, we focused on trying to make abstract photos more abstract by moving different images around and cloning them into the images.
In this set of photos that I took most of the pictures came out ver dark because the font was black and white. I wasn't really happy with them because they are very dark and you are unable to see them. The photos would have been so much better if you could actually seem clearly what the photos are. There are some photos that aren't that bad, for example the third to last photo isn't that bad and personally I think that it looks very abstract.
Puzzle'em game.. The puzzle em game is game of cards where you have to guess what the images are. I'm going to go out and take images of abstract things. The photos I'm going to try and take a photos of things that you wouldn't normally notice whilst walking around. My game isn't going to be that hard, but it also isn't going to be easy enough for you to guess the images fast. Over the weeks I want to make sure that my game isn't similar in any way to anybody else's game. I want my photos to be abstract as well as may game.
The photographer I have chose to work on is Peter Fraser. it says that he loved doing abstract photography since he was the age of 7. He says that he doesn't think about what he's going top take photos of normally the photos come to him. He takes a lot of photos in photography in Chicago.
WWW: in these set of pictures that I took for my puzzle'em game, I tried to photograph the things that I though people would notice whilst walking past. There are some picture I could have took a lot better as some of them aren't clear or didn't com out the way I wanted them to.
EBI:im going to try and make my photos more unique because right now I think they are every simple, and it is very easy to guess what the object is in some of them. Also I think that some of the picture are very similar so I am going to try and make them different when I next take pictures.
MY final pictures
Saul Leiter was an American photography and painter whose early work in the 1940s and 1950s was a important contribute to what came to be a recognised as the new Yorks school of photography.
1. I chose this picture because they where all very different but all had links to them. 2.all the photos have some Lin k to the weather and the different shadows that the weather creates. 3.All of the photos he takes are out or focus or have some parts in the picture that are out of focus. 4. I think this is important because it will make you unique, not a lot of people like their photos to be out of focus or blury. 5. the photos are abstract in many ways. the one that stands out most is the fact that you can barely see the photo but you know what is going on in the photo.
In these set of photos i was trying to focus on all different types of abstract and most of them were set outside. i would say that these photos are a bit dark and dull, because there isnt a lot of colour and when there is colour the main focus of the picture is very dark. To improve these pictures i think i would stick to the main focus, for example keep them all outside instead of a mix of outside and inside. The pictures i like most are the ones with the coloured boards in them because i feel like they stand out a lot more than all of the other photos.
I these photos i was trying to take abstract pictures with the colours boards. The coloured board makes my photos look a lot more detailed and creative. Also most of these photos have people in them which makes the photo a little more different to my other photos because my other photos don't have people in them. One way i think i could improve these photos is made them a bit more clear and not at blurred, because in some of them you cant see what is in the photo. the one thing that i like about these set of photos is none of them are really the same, they all have different focused.
Saul Leiter
In the two photos that I chose they are both focused on women and the different colours and shadows in them. he focused on darker colours when taking photographs, nut in his paintings the colours that he uses are very bright and vibrant.
In the painting that I done I could have made it better by trying to make the painting more like the picture that I was trying to paint, I could have done that by making it look like it was raining a bit more and made the colours stand out a little more. I think I done a good job at shading and making it clear what I was painting.
These are another set of abstract photos that are taken with the coloured boarder.i think that all of these pictures are completely different because all of the background focuses are different. i didnt have a set theme for these photos, for example they were taken in both inside and outside and they are both dull and bright.
